West Bend’s semi-pro football team, Junkyard Dogs, will be partnering with the Washington County Humane Society this season. “A volunteer from the shelter will attend home games with an adoptable dog or honorary mascot,” said the Humane Society’s Kathie Jaster. “It’s a little publicity and cross-promotion of sorts. They’re the Junkyard Dogs and we have dogs that are looking to ‘score’ a permanent home.”
This is the first year the two organizations have worked together. “When they contacted me I thought, wow, this sounded like something we could put into motion,” Jaster said.
The honorary mascot will be featured at the end of every quarter and mentioned throughout the game. After each home game, the Junkyard Dogs will also donate $50 toward the first accepted dog adoption the Humane Society processes the following week. The person receiving the $50 donation must have attended the football game on Saturday and provide proof of game attendance. At the Humane Society, dog and puppy adoptions range in price from $50 to $175 depending on the size of dog, breed and age of the animal.
The Humane Society is already promoting the local football partnership on its Web site, www.washingtoncountyhumane.org, and on Facebook with a message that reads “Come support the West Bend Junkyard Dogs because they support our dogs!” All JYD home games will be played at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in Jackson. The first home game is May 29 at 3 p.m. against the Fond du Lac Crusaders.
